Keith Haring was born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania, and was raised in nearby Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He loved
to draw at a very early age due to the influences of his father, Dr. Suess, and Walt Disney. Keith graduated in 1976 and then
enrolled in the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh. He dropped out after two semesters. After that he moved to New
York City and enrolled in the School of Visual Arts(SVA).
In New York he found a thriving art community which was developing outside the gallery in downtown and on subways. then
he met different artists such as Kenny Scharf and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He enjoyed drawing and doing art in this type of atmosphere
so he continued to work this way. He began to participate in exhibitions such as Club 57.
